On April 30th, we co-hosted a public-private strategy session with the White House on driving innovation and civic dialogue through the use of prizes, challenges and open grantmaking. The conference was a great success with lively discussions and presentations on the topic. Since space was limited for attendees and in the spirit of public participation, we wanted to make sure anyone, anywhere could have access to some of the key speakers at the event, by hosting interactive live CaseSoup Q&A sessions. We interviewed leading innovators, including including Sonal Shah of the White House Office of Social Innovation and Civic Participation, US CTO Aneesh Chopra, the team from the Pepsi Refresh Project, and others. We also opened it up for the public to ask their questions via Twitter, live Chat, and email.
Over the next several weeks, I will be posting recorded videos of these live interviews, starting today with Peter Diamandis, Chairman and CEO of the X Prize Foundation, and Tom Kalil, White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and National Economic Council.
Here is a sampling of some of the questions they answered:
- What is President Obama’s innovation strategy for Prizes and Challenges?
- How are the government and the private sector learning from each other in terms of prizes and challenges?
- Is the prizes and challenges strategy effective for smaller initiatives and organizations?
- Are prizes and challenges just a fad or is there a future to this model?
- What advice is there for organizations using Prizes and Challenges for the first time?
- What are some of the most interesting Prizes and Challenges initiatives happening now?
