We are thrilled about today's announcement from musician David Cook, last year's "American Idol" winner, that he has designated Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure (ABC2), a Case Foundation partner organization, to receive all proceeds from the sale of the live recording of his performance on the American Idol season finale tonight. The recording will be available for purchase on iTunes immediately after the live broadcast of the show. David served as Honorary Chair of the 2009 Race for Hope, which raised $2 million for ABC2 and the National Brain Tumor Society.
From today's press release:
Exactly one year after winning the seventh season of "American Idol," David Cook returns to the most popular television series in America on Wednesday night to perform "Permanent," -- a song he wrote with Chantal Kreviazuk and Raine Maida. The studio version of "Permanent" appears on his platinum-selling debut album for 19 Recordings/RCA Records, "David Cook." The live recording will be available for purchase on iTunes immediately after the live broadcast. 100 percent of the proceeds will go to Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure (ABC2), a Washington, D.C.-based organization dedicated to finding a cure for brain cancer.
You can watch and hear David talk about tonight's performance and his decision to donate the proceeds from the recording to ABC2 on television and radio interviews today. Here are a few clips:
We hope you'll tune in tonight to American Idol to see the performance live, then log on to iTunes to download his performance after the show.

- sukay 21 May 09, 9:54Permanent performed for millions on the AI finale will do much good -- not just for the money it will raise for this cause, but for the comfort and inspiration it will be for many whose loved ones are dealing with serious illness. This is a beautiful song -- please listen to it, print out the lyrics, listen again, and pass it along to others. The gift of music such as this can be very healing in and of itself.
- NEMO Cougar 20 May 09, 20:14David Cook is a class act. He posted a blog about his involvement in the abc2.org and his fans took it upon themselves to raise money for the cause. His brother was very sick and so everyone knew that they had to help and help they did by raising $113k for David's Team and a total of $2m for Abc2.org. But that wasn't enough for David Cook and tonight he could just use the venue to sell more records, but instead of playing his most recent single he is singing the anthem for his brother Adam to raise money for abc2.org and his fans are behind him because David has never let us down, and we are not going to let him down. We are gifiting thousands of copies of this song Permanent for our internetaional fans who just accepted David at a sell out crowd in Phillipines and for people that cannot yet get David's album around the world.
David Cook is all that is good about the world; so for .99 cents buy the song Permanent for the next 30 days!
David Cook = LOVE.
- Anonymous 20 May 09, 18:38Way to go, David! Many talk the talk, but you actually take action. Many lives could be lengthened or even saved because of the money raised. Bless you, your brother and your family.
