Our Gear Up for Giving Ask the Gurus sessions continued today with more great advice for nonprofits who are learning to use social media for outreach, marketing and fundraising. Katya Andresen, COO of Network for Good and nonprofit marketing blogger, gave us an hour of her time to answer your questions about raising money and support for your cause online.

Just a few of the questions Katya addressed in the session are:

  • Which social media tool is best for fundraising?
  • How do I find a balance between personal and professional use of social media like Facebook and Twitter?
  • When we are letting our message circulate through social media, should we be strategic in giving people talking points?
  • Is social media just a fad that will die in the near future?
  • How do you use social media in addition to traditional fundraising techniques?
  • How do I decide who my nonprofit should follow on Twitter? Do my other followers care who the organization follows?
  • How do I reach a new community of funders and partners?

We will be back every Tuesday and Thursday for the next month with our Giving Gurus to answer your questions about social media for social good, so keep sending them to gearup@casefoundation.org or tweet them with the hashtag #AGC. As we have already seen with Katya and Geoff Livingston, each Giving Guru has a unique set of experiences and can provide a valuable perspective as you navigate the waters of social media, so the more you are able to participate, the more you will learn.

Our next session will be Thursday September 17, with author and activist Allison Fine.

Update 9/23/09: The transcript of Katya's Q&A session is now available!
