President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation
The President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation was established in 2003 to recognize, reward, and inspire the important contributions that Americans of all ages are making in their communities through service and civic engagement.
The Council leads a massive nationwide effort to not only recognize the dedication of America’s 65 million volunteers, but to help ensure that all Americans -- no matter their background -- have an opportunity to give back.
As chair of the Council since 2006, Jean Case has led the growth of the President’s Volunteer Service Award program, which has recognized more than 1.3 million people for their commitment to service.
In February 2008, the Council helped launch A Billion + Change, a three-year campaign to reinvigorate America’s workforce and generate $1 billion of skilled expertise to help nonprofits meet social and community needs.
