Social Citizens

In early 2008, the Case Foundation’s release of Social Citizens, a blog and nontraditional discussion paper, brought with it a unique platform for discussions on how the Next Generation—and Millennials in particular—are changing the nature of social change.

What we realized was that there exists a very large and diverse group driving an even bigger trend that impacts us all. We found that the attributes of a “Social Citizen”—digital fluency, idealism, immersion in social causes—while closely linked to the identity of those in the “Next Generation” in reality, cut across any generation, sector or background.

So if you are, or think you are, or want to be a Social Citizen thenconsider this our personal invitation to you to help us learn all we can about social citizens and their passionate engagement with communities and causes larger than themselves.

Most recently, we explored issues related to Millennial engagement, cross generational communication, and Next Gen development through our support of the Millennial Donor Summit(MDS11). The virtual summit brought together leaders from across sectors looking for new methods to involve constituents; new technologies to increase engagement for a cause; and new approaches to raise support for various issues among this important up and coming generation.

Through projects such as these and the overall Social Citizens platform, we hope to inspire feedback and discussion at the Social Citizens Blog, and through a series of programs that provide a snapshot of these social citizens and their passionate engagement.
