The Power to Donate in the Palm of Your Hand

What do the NFL and Grammy-winning R&B singer Alicia Keys have in common? They've both embraced the concept of "mobile giving," and witnessed firsthand the massive potential of this fun new way to support the causes we care about.

An NFL-sponsored 10-second ad televised during this year's Super Bowl helped United Way raise more than $10,000 for youth fitness programs via text donations. And fans attending Alicia Keys' recent U.S. tour donated more than $40,000 through their mobile phones to Keep a Child Alive.

The Washington Nationals of Major League Baseball are the latest to step up to the plate with a new Text-to-Give campaign benefiting Children's National Medical Center. On July 13, during an afternoon game between the Nationals and the Houston Astros, baseball fans were invited to pick up their mobile phones and text the word NATS to 90999 to instantly donate $5 toward the creation of a Diabetes Care Complex at Children's. The messages generate a charge directly to the caller's cell phone bill.

While the focus of this new Text-to-Give campaign was the July 13 game, anyone can donate any time through July 31. So grab your phone, text NATS to 90999 today ... and help hit a home run for a great cause!

Both the NFL and Alicia Keys partnered with mobile application service provider/cause-marketing agency Mobile Accord and the Mobile Giving Foundation (MGF), an organization that enables nonprofits to accept donations from almost any phone and major cellular service provider. MGF is also partnering with the Nationals and Children's on this latest fundraising event.
